Load a Bolex, read light by hand, and shoot a roll of real motion-picture film. We cover exposure, framing, and the discipline of making every frame count when film is finite.

Bamfield · Vancouver Island, BC
A community film & photography collective keeping analog craft alive on the west coast — workshops, story pieces, and a fine art print shop. In it for the art.
Who We Are
Bamfield Media House is a small, artist-run collective on the edge of Vancouver Island. We make documentary-style story pieces about the people, ecology, and history of this coast — and we teach the old, hands-on ways of making images: 16mm motion film, large-format photography, and the darkroom.
We're not here to chase the biggest contract. We're here to keep craft alive, to put cameras and film in the hands of our neighbours, and to leave a record of this place that's made by the community, not just about it.
Workshops & Learning
We run hands-on workshops in old filmmaking and photographic practices. No previous experience needed — just curiosity. Bring your hands and your eye; we bring the gear and the film.
Load a Bolex, read light by hand, and shoot a roll of real motion-picture film. We cover exposure, framing, and the discipline of making every frame count when film is finite.
Cut real film on a flatbed. Learn how a story is built in the edit — pacing, rhythm, and the feel of handling physical film instead of pixels.
From the telecine to the final cut — colour, sound, and getting your 16mm work into a format the world can actually see.
Frames from recent 16mm sessions on the coast.
Our next chapter: a fully-equipped darkroom built into a trailer, brought to the community so anyone can develop and print their own film. A mobile space for analog photography — wherever the work, and the people, are.

Print Shop
We're a small, artist-run business helping other artists bring their work to life. Competitive pricing with a personal touch: free consultations, careful file checks, and a real dedication to quality you can trust.
We print with professional pigment inks for archival results. We can print on any paper you prefer, and regularly stock premium fine art papers — our staple is Red River, and we rotate in Hahnemühle, Canson, and Moab. Every file is reviewed so the final print matches your vision: true-to-color, sharp, and gallery-ready.
Print sizes: from 8×8″ up to 17×25″.
Shipping: Canada-wide, in eco-friendly materials. Tube shipping is most secure; flat shipping in rigid boxes is also available.
Resolution: 300 DPI is the standard for fine art papers. DPI = Image Pixels ÷ Print Size (inches). An 8×10″ print at 300 DPI needs at least 2400×3000 px. Preferred file types: TIFF, PNG, PSD.
Flat-rate pricing by sheet size (Red River papers). For Hahnemühle, Canson, or Moab, request a custom quote.
